Trip to MP, Chitrakoot

In front of Kamadgiri Temple

Embarking on the enchanting trail from Maihar to Chitrakoot on the crisp morning of January 15th, our expedition unfolded with a tapestry of cultural exploration and scenic wonders.

Navigating through the heart of Chitrakoot, our journey began with a scenic bus ride from Maihar to Satna and another from Satna to Chitrakoot. Enroute, a fellow passenger shared a local gem—Kamadgiri Bhavan—as the perfect abode. With anticipation building, an auto-rickshaw swiftly transported us. This haven was available at a reasonable cost of 1500 rupees.

Our cozy three-bed room at Kamadgiri Bhavan boasted modern amenities, including an attached geyser and an air conditioner—though the chilly weather rendered the latter unnecessary. Freshened up and brimming with excitement, we embarked on the Kamadgiri Parvat Parikrama, a captivating 6km journey that included side branches like Laxman Pahadi.

The barefoot parikrama unfolded with a visit to the sacred Kamadgiri Temple, followed by a climb up the 234 steps of Laxman Pahadi. From the pinnacle, breathtaking views and serene temples dedicated to Laxman, Ram, and Bharat captivated our senses.

Descending from the mountain, our journey continued to Bharat Milaap—the symbolic meeting place of Rama and Bharat, immortalized by footprints. Completing the parikrama in an hour, we reveled in the spiritual energy that enveloped us.

Venturing further into Chitrakoot, our auto-rickshaw adventure commenced with a visit to Sati Anusuya Temple—a dham on the banks of the Mandakini River. The exquisite depictions of Sati Anusuya, Atri Muni, and the story of Dattatreya left an indelible mark on our hearts.

Gupt Godavari, with its mystical cave and small temple, offered a unique experience as we waded through knee-high water. The journey continued to Sphatik Sheela—a shiny rock with a captivating tale entwined with Ram, Sita, and a crow.

Janki Kund, a serene bathing spot on the riverbank, provided a tranquil pause before our final destination—Ramghat. As the sun dipped below the horizon, we embraced a boat ride on the Mandakini River at Ramghat, witnessing the mesmerizing Ganga Aarti.

The evening's chill greeted us, prompting a swift retreat to the warmth of Kamadgiri Bhavan. Savoring delectable cuisine at the canteen, we capped off the day with a grateful heart, ready to embrace the upcoming chapters of our Madhya Pradesh sojourn. Stay tuned as we delve deeper into the mystical wonders of this cultural tapestry!
